Another day on the Alaskan home front has dawned beautiful, cold and clear at about -3 degrees. We spent the day with wood cutting, walking to do a few errands, making a few phone calls, replacing the broken doorknob, and having friends over for supper.

Yesterday on the way back from the washateria, the rear driver’s side brake hose broke! L While we were both frustrated at the time, we can be thankful that it didn’t happen on our trip back from Fairbanks! We talked to a few people in town to see if anyone had spare parts, but no one had any brakes for a suburban that they didn’t need! J So, Roger called out to Fairbanks to an auto shop. The shop was able to get the part from Anchorage to Fairbanks by Tuesday, but how were we going to get the parts? Well, in small communities you go talk to the postmaster! J She knew someone that was coming back from Fairbanks on Thursday and gave Roger the phone number to call him. So Roger made the call to contact the man and he agreed to pick up the parts for us at the auto shop. He is bringing the part back to Manley with him and will drop it off sometime on Thursday. J People working together and helping each other has not been all together forgotten. J

I walked down to the post office early this morning to try to get some letters on this morning’s plane, but I was a little late. Oh well, the letters will go out on Wednesday. I did get in a nice brisk walk. J Later in the morning, we walked down again to the post office to get the mail. Yay for friends and family! J Two packages from my sisters came filled with after Christmas treats, cookie mix, coffee and some yarn I requested. Also, a package from our favorite cheese lady, Julie! J She sent us a package of Wisconsin cheese and butter-YUM!

We had Art and Damaris over for supper last night. Damaris graciously supplied us with corn and flour tortillas for the tacos, and I made homemade cream puffs for dessert. We always enjoy visiting with them and thank God for their friendship to us! We also shared our Wisconsin cheese with them, and it was enjoyed by all.

I hesitate to even post this, but we are planning on having the teacher’s family over for dinner on Thursday. J

We also have a team of people coming from a church in Fairbanks on Saturday to cut wood. They’ll be staying in the church on Saturday night and staying for church on Sunday. I’ll be providing supper for them on Saturday, and Roger will be helping the team cut wood.
